What is an equation?
An equation can be solved and has a = e.g. 4x + 3 = 12
1 of 35
What is an expression?
An expression cannot be solved because it doesn't have an = sign in it. You can only simplify expression's e.g. 3a + 3b +a -2b
2 of 35
What are perpendicular lines?
Perpendicular lines are lines that meet at right angles.
3 of 35
What is a gradient?
A gradient is how steep a line is.
4 of 35
What is a vector?
A vector is a way to describe a movement, it has direction and magnitude e.g. [0/3]
5 of 35
What is a unique factor theorem?
A Unique Factor Theorem is when you produce a prime factor decomposition or a prime factor tree.
6 of 35
How do you multiply with negative numbers?
To multiply with negative numbers if the sign is the same e.g. (+,+ or -,-) then the answer will be POSITIVE. If the signs are different e.g. (+,-) then the answer will be negative.
7 of 35
How do you check if vectors are parallel?
To check if vectors are parallel they have to be a multiple of each other e.g. A = [4/2] B = [12/6] these are parallel vectors because if you multiple A by 3 if = B.
8 of 35
What are the 3 main facts about bearings?
The 3 main facts about bearings are 1. Bearings are always measured clockwise. 2. We always measure from North. 3. They must have 3 figures e.g. if it was 54 degrees it would be 054 degrees.
9 of 35
What does HCF stand for and what does it mean?
HCF stands for Highest Common Factor and this is the highest factor that goes into both numbers. e.g. the HCF of 12 and 20 is 4.
10 of 35
What does LCM stand for and what does it mean?
LCM stands for Lowest Common Multiple and this is the lowest multiple that both numbers go into. e.g. the LCM of 12 and 15 is 60.
11 of 35
How do you work out the area of a triangle and what do all its angles add up to?
The area of a triangle is height x base / 2 and all angles in a triangle add up to 180 degs.
12 of 35
What are corresponding angles?
Corresponding angles are when there is 2 parallel lines and a line that goes through them, the corresponding angles are the ones directly above or beneath each other.
13 of 35
What are alternate angles?
Alternate angles are when there is 2 parallel lines and a line going through them, the alternate angles are in a z shape.
14 of 35
How would you factorise the expression X²+7x+12?
The answer would be (x+3)(x+4)
15 of 35
How do you times fractions together?
Simplify the fractions if not in lowest terms. Multiply the numerators of the fractions to get the new numerator. Multiply the denominators of the fractions to get the new denominator.e.g. 1/2*1/3=1/6
16 of 35
how do you divide fractions together?
A simple way to divide by a fraction is to turn the fraction upside down and multiply. It works with all fractions.e.g. 3/8 divided by 3/4 =3/8 *4/3=1/2
17 of 35
What is the nth term of the sequence 5,7,9,11?
the nth term is 2n+3 this is because it goes up in 2's and the 0th term is +3 so the nth term is 2n+3
18 of 35
what is the nth term of the sequence -5,-13,-21,-29?
the nth term is -8n+3 this is because it goes down in -8's and the 0th term is +3 so the nth term is -8n+3.
19 of 35
how would you remember the gradient?
gradient= change in y over change in x or rise over run.
20 of 35
how would you work out the gradient of a line(1,1) (10,19)
19-1 over 10-1 = 18 over 9 which is 2, so the gradient of that line is 2.
21 of 35
what is the gradient and the y intercept of the equation y=2x+1?
the gradient would be 2 because the x is the gradient and the y intercept is +1.
22 of 35
what is the HCF of 45 and 60?
The HCF is 15 because if you do a factor tree you get 3²*5²*3*2*2 and the numbers that are squared are factors of both numbers and they go in the middle of the venn diagram and then times them together which is 5*3=15.
23 of 35
what is the LCM of 45 and 60?
The LCM is 180 because if you do a factor tree for 45 and 60 yo get 3²*5²*3*2*2 and then put them in to a venn diagram and times them all together which is 3*3*5*2*2=180
24 of 35
round 00.007562 to 2 significant figures
The answer would be 0.0076 because zeros before a significant figure are just place holders and don't count as significant figures.
25 of 35
round 1.105683 to 5 significant figures
The answer would be 1.1056 because a zero after a significant figure is a significant figure.
26 of 35
round 142.3794 to two decimal places
The answer would be 142.38
27 of 35
round 85071 to one significant figure, two significant figures and three significant figures
85071 to one significant figure would be 9000, to two significant figures it would be 8500 and to three significant figures it would be 85100.
28 of 35
What would the upper bound and lower bound of 50 be?
The upper bound would be 55 and the lower bound would be 45.
29 of 35
what does 3.118>3.112 mean?
This means that 3.118 is bigger than 3.112.
30 of 35
How do you work out cumulative frequency with the frequency?
Cumulative frequency is defined as a running total of frequencies. The frequency of an element in a set refers to how many of that element there are in the set. Cumulative frequency can also defined as the sum of all previous frequencies up to the cu
31 of 35
If the frequency went up like this 34,27,21,14,4 what would the cumulative frequency look like?
The cumulative frequency would go up like this 34,61,82,96,100
32 of 35
What is the upper quartile?
The upper quartile is the value 3/4 of the way up the cumulative frequency axis(y axis)
33 of 35
what is the lower quartile?
The lower quartile is the value 1/4 of the way up the cumulative frequency axis(y axis)
34 of 35
