How does token economy work?
Clinicians set target behaviours that they believe will improve the patient's engagement in daily activities.

11 out of 13 studies reported beneficial effects that were directly attributable to the use of token economies. McMonagle & Sultana (2000) suggested the use of token economies in developing countries could be effective in shaping behaviour.

Name 2 weaknesses of token economy.
A major problem in assessing the effectiveness of token economies is that studies of their use tend to be uncontrolled. There are ethical concerns about the use of token economy programmes in psychiatric settings.
