In what order did Newland put the elements in his periodic table?
In order of atomic mass
1 of 5
What was Newland's 'Law of Octaves'?
Newland believed that every 8th element had similar properties.
2 of 5
Give 3 reasons why Newland's periodic table was flawed.
1. His law of octaves only worked with the first few elements 2. Some Groups had a mix of metals and non-metals 3. Elements were still being dicsovered
3 of 5
How was Mendeleev's periodic table different to Newland's?
Mendeleev arranged the elements in a periodic way, he left gaps for undiscovered elements, and he predicted the properties and atomic masses of those undiscovered elements.
4 of 5
How did Mendeleev "influence" the modern periodic table?
His predictions of undiscovered elements were similar to the actual properties. Atomic structure, noble gases and electrons were discovered. The modern periodic table has Groups and Periods.
