What does the mouth do within the digestive system?
Food enters the body, chewing breaks up the food and mixes it with enzymes to start digestion.

It produces bile, which helps in the digestion of fats in small intestine. It converts food molecules absorbed from small intestine into other molecules.

Food moves through the oesophagus by peristalsis - peristalsis is the contraction of some muscles in the wall of the oesophagus, and relaxation of others, which pushes the food along from the oesophagus to the anus.

Acids and enzymes are added, stomach contents are mixed by churning of muscular wall
