What intensity do you work at during aerobic exercise
The aerobic system takes over during moderate to low exercise.
1 of 8
How are the initial processes of the aerobic system similar to the lactic acid system.
During the aerobic system there is sufficient oxygen, pyruvic acid moves from the sarcoplasm to the mitochondria.
2 of 8
What is the mitochondria?
Referred to as the power house of the body. Mitochondria provide energy to the muscles fibres using oxygen.
3 of 8
What is the matrix?
The fluid inside the mitochondria where electron transport chain is located.
4 of 8
Where is the electron transport chain located?
Within the folds of the Cristae
5 of 8
What are the two stages of the aerobic energy production.
The citric acid cycle and Electron transport chain
6 of 8
What are the advantages of the aerobic system
Efficient production of energy. Limitless energy production. No fatiguing by-products. Uses fats as an energy source.
7 of 8
What are the disadvantages?
Only suited to low to moderate intensity work. Takes time to transition. It can take 20 minutes to start to use fats as an energy source.
