Cell Division has 2 parts. What are they?
Nuclear division - division of nucleus (in meiosis or mitosis) and Cell Division where whole cell divides

What must happen before cell division?
All DNA must be replicated so all daughter cells have genetic information

DNA replication is semi-conservative. There must be 4 requirements for this to take place:
Four types of nucleotide, each with adenine, thymine, cytosine, and guanine bases. Both strands of DNA must act as a template for nucleotide attachment. Enzyme DNA polymerase needed to catalyse the reaction. Chemical energy to drive process.

What is the process for DNA replication?
DNA Helicase breaks H+ bonds which link base pairs. Double helix splits into two strands, unwinds. Exposed polynucleotide strand is a template. Free nucleotides attracted to complementary bases. Energy activates nucleotides, joined by DNA polymerase

What does the DNA Polymerase do?
Forms missing polynucleotides on each of the 2 polynucleotide strands of DNA

Who created evidence for the semi-conservative model?
Frances Crick, followed by Meselsohn and Stahl

What did Meselsohn and Stahl do?
Grew bacteria in 15 Nitrogen for 1st generation, transferred to 14 Nitrogen for many generations. Half original DNA conserved, more new light chains as DNA replicates. Hybrid DNA formed by two different strands.
