What are the values of care?
Promoting equality & diversity; Maintaining confidentiality; Promoting individual rights & beliefs

Part 1 welfare of the child is paramount, keeping children safe and maintaining a healthy and safe environment, working in partnership with parents/guardians and families, encouraging learning and development,valuing diversity

The welfare of the child is paramount
Positive expectations should be encouraged, a child must never be smacked or humiliated. Children should be put first and listened to. Their needs & views must be considered at all times to ensure they are able to grow and develop effectively

Keeping children safe and maintaining a healthy and safe environment
Protecting children from abuse, applying health and safety procedures. The environment should enable children to feel comfortable and safe. Their environment should encourage a healthy lifestyle and approach to learning

Working in partnership with parents/guardians and families
Working with other practitiones is essential for development but should only be carried out with consent

Encouraging children's learning and development
Children should be offered a range of experiences and activities that support all aspects of development

Valuing diversity
Differences between people should be identified as positive. Children should be encouraged to learn about how important it is to be unique

Equality of opportunity
Each child should be offered equality of access and opportunities to learn and develop to their potential

Ensuring anti-discrimination
Negative attitudes and prejudices by children and adults should be challenged

Ensuring confidentiality
Private information about children and parents should not be shared with others without consent (unless it is on a need-to-know basis)

Working with other practitioners is essential for development but should only be carried out with consent

Early years practitioners need to think about their own practice and plan for development

Why is it important to apply the values of care?
to ensure standardisation of care; to improve the quality of care; to provide clear guidelines to inform and improve practice; to maintain or improve quality of life

Physical (pain if treatment not given) Intellectual (loss of focus/concentration) Emotional (feeling betrayed, low self-esteem) Social (feeling excluded from group)
