The Battle of the Somme- watched by 20m in first 6 weeks. 3,000 cinemas in 1914. 5,000 in 1930. 1950- average person went to the cinema 28 times. 1946- sales of 1.635 billion. 69% of 16-19 year olds went once a week. 11% of those over 60s went.
