Meaning 'two powers', where two superpowers have equal global power and influence, their ideology means that great powers/developing powers will band behind one country/ideology. Example of bipolarity-the Cold War

Meaning 'three or more powers', in a Liberal viewpoint, many states will have equal power in specific areas.

Hegemon
A global hegemon is one nation that has economic, cultural and military dominance over all other states, this means they can enforce their ideology onto others and invade any nation with ease.

Hegemonic Stability Theory
Theorised by Kenneth Waltz, who argued that the most stable type of polarity was bipolarity, as both nations have mutually assured destruction, both sides know they will destroy the other.
