Arteriole & Arteries
Blood vessels that carry blood away from the heart and supply the body's tissues and organs with oxygenated blood
1 of 36
Atrial diastole
Relaxation of the Atrium
2 of 36
Atrial systole
Contraction of the Atrium
3 of 36
Atrioventricular valves (Bicuspid & Tricuspid)
These are found in the heart, blood blood builds pressure in the Atrium and then ejaculates into the Ventrical
4 of 36
AV Node
Pauses the the heart beat to allow the atrium to fill with blood
5 of 36
Blood pressure
The pressure at which the blood is flowing depending on the amount of cholesterol in the veins and arteries.
6 of 36
Blood Redistribution
Blood being redistributed to the muscles which need the oxygen in exercise due to the closing of Pre Capillary Sphincters
7 of 36
Bundle of HIS
Causes electrical impulses to allow the Ventricles to contract
8 of 36
Capillary
Sites of internal respiration, also blood vessels which allow blood to flow around the body
9 of 36
Capillary Bed
A bundle of Capillary's
10 of 36
Cardiac Control Centre (CCC)
Located in the Medulla Oblongata, sends impulses to the heart to allow it to beat
11 of 36
Cardiac Cycle
Everything that happens in one beat
12 of 36
Cardiac Hypertrophy
Gain in heart size
13 of 36
Cardiac Output
SVxHR=CO
14 of 36
Diastole
Relaxation
15 of 36
Diastolic pressure
Pressure at atrial relaxation
16 of 36
Heart Rate (HR)
Amount of beats per minute
17 of 36
Muscle Pump
One of the venous return mechanisms, muscles push against the veins which increases the pressure and therefore pushes the blood along the veins
18 of 36
Myogenic
The heart contracts on its own
19 of 36
Pocket valves
Located in the veins, allows the blood to go through the valve but not go backwards
20 of 36
Pre Capillary Sphincter
Located at the start of a capillary, closes up during blood redistribution if the muscle dosent need as much oxygen as others
21 of 36
Purkinje Fibres
Transports the wave of depolarisation around the heart
22 of 36
Pulmonary circulation
Circulation to the lungs and back to the heart
23 of 36
Respiratory Pump
Chest cavity increases in size and increases the pressure causing the blood to move along the vein
24 of 36
SA Node
Pacemaker of the heart
25 of 36
Semi-Lunar valves
Atrial and Pulmonary valves which push blood out of the heart
26 of 36
Stroke Volume
Amount of blood pumped per beat
27 of 36
Systemic Circulation
Circulation to the rest of the body and back
28 of 36
Systole
Contraction
29 of 36
Systolic Pressure
Pressure of the Atrium when contracting
30 of 36
Vascular Shunt
Distribution to the parts of the body that need blood
31 of 36
Vasoconstriction
The constriction of the veins
32 of 36
Vasodilation
The relaxation of the veins
33 of 36
Venous return
Return of the blood to the heart
34 of 36
Ventricular diastole
Relaxation of the ventricles
35 of 36
Ventricular systole
Contraction of the ventricals
36 of 36
