Principles of training
SPORTM - Specificity, Progression, Overload, Reversibility, Tedium, Moderation

Specificity
Sports training that should be relevant and appropriate to the sport which the individual is training for

Progression
Gradually increasing overload so you do not injure yourself or damage a muscle

Overload
when an individual puts more stress on the body so they can adapt to the training that is required and improve fitness

Reversibility
When you stop training, anything you have developed whilst training will be lost unless you carry on

Tedium
Variety in training so you do not get bored and give up

Moderation
Doing something in moderation (not extreme) so you do not hurt/injure yourself. Also so you do not lose confidence in what you are doing

Components of Fitness
Strength, Stamina, Balance, Speed, Flexibility, LME, R +R, Power, Co-ordination, Agility

Strength
The amount of force your muscles exert in a single action

Stamina
The ability to work continuously for a long period of time

Speed
the rate of movement

Flexibility
the range of movements at your joints

Power
Force that is applied at speed or is sustained

LME
Local Muscular Endurance - the ability of a group of your muscles to work continuously for a long period of time

Agility
the ability to change direction at speed or with balance

Balance
maintaining a stable position in movement and stillness

Co-ordination
the ability to link a series of actions together efficiently

R+R
The ability to take in information, make a decision and act upon it
