PE 1

?
What is Systolic pressure?
It is the high pressure measured when the blood is pumped out of the heart to go around the body. This high number rises during excercise and falls during sleep.
1 of 8
What is Diastolic pressure?
It is when the heart relaxes between beats, so this is the low number on a reading.
2 of 8
What is Stroke Volume?
The amount of blood pumped by the heart with each beat.
3 of 8
What is Cardiac Output?
The amount of blood pumped by the heart each minute.
4 of 8
What are the long term effects of excercise on the CV system?
Increased Stroke Volume and Cardiac Output, resting HR decreases, increased size of heart, resting heart recovery rate quickens, reduced blood pressure, healthier veins and arteries.
5 of 8
Equation for Cardiac Output?
Heart Rate x Stroke Volume (HR x SV = CO)
6 of 8
What are the short term effects on the respiratory system?
Breathing quickens and deepens to get enough oxygen to the working muscles.
7 of 8
What are the long term effects on the repiratory system?
Improved efficiency of lungs, increased tidal volume and vital capacity, increased alveoli.
