POMs that can be prescribed and supplied by a vet, pharmacist or other suitably qualified person on an oral or written prescription (written prescription only required if supplier not the prescriber)

What is a NFA-VPS?
Medicine for non-food animals that can be supplied by a vet, pharmacist or a suitably qualified person (written prescription not required)

Authorised vet medicine that is available on general sale

What are exempt medicines under schedule 6 for small pet animals (SAES)?
An unlicensed vet medicine that doesn't require a marketing authorisation as it meets criteria laid out in schedule 6 regulations

What is an unauthorised veterinary medicine?
An unlicensed medicine that doesn't have a marketing authorisation and doesn't meet the criteria in schedule 6. Can only be prescribed by a vet under the cascade (includes any human meds)

What are the legal requirements of a veterinary prescription? Part 1 (5 things)
Prescriber details (name, address, phone number, qualification), signature, registration number needed for CD schedule 2 and 3, name and address of owner, animal details (identification, species and address if different to owners)

What are the legal requirements of a veterinary prescription? Part 2 (4 things)
Date (same validity as human), medicine details (name, quantity, dose and administration instructions), warnings and withdrawal period if appropriate, number of repeats authorised if appropriate

No, it is unlawful to supply unauthorised vet meds for an animal unless it takes place under the cascade - even if the vet asked the owner to purchase it

What are the legal requirements of a pharmacist supplying NFA-VPS or prescribing POM-VPS? 4 things
Advise on how to use it safely, advise on any applicable warnings or contraindications, be satisfied recipient intends to use the medicine correctly and is competent to do so, prescribe/supply minimum quantity possible

What are the legal requirements for labels if not already on packaging? Part 1 (7 things)
Name of vet, name and address of owner, name and address of pharmacy, identification of species, date of supply, expiry date, name and description of product or its active ingredients and content quantity

Dosage and administration instructions, special storage instructions if appropriate, any necessary warnings for user, any applicable withdrawal period, the words 'for animal treatment only' and the words 'keep out of reach of children'
