how is primary recovery different from secondary and tertiary recovery?
primary recovery uses reservoirs natural energy. In secondary and tertiary, we add energy to the reservoir
1 of 12
How can we add energy into the reservoir
we can inject water into the reservoir to push oil (water flooding - secondary), we can inject water into aquifer (water injection - secondary), we can inject gas into gas caps ( secondary)
2 of 12
tertiary recovery
we can add heat, chemicals, gas into the reservoir to change the reservoir properties
3 of 12
definition of resource
all of the hydrocarbons, both discovered and undiscovered, whether it can be recovered or not
4 of 12
reserves are...
Recoverable resource tha has been found but not recovered. Estimated volumes of crude oil, condensate, natural gas, natural gas liquids and associated substances
5 of 12
cumulative production
resource that has been recovered and either in store or in use
6 of 12
difference in proved, probable, possible
proved or proven - the lwest figure that geologist are 90% sure are there, probable or proved -the average figure (median or mean) closest to the value of which the reservoir contains, possible is the highest amount of reservoir - 10% sure
7 of 12
contingent resources
quantities of petroleum which are estimated on a given date to be potentially recoverable from known accumulations
8 of 12
prospective resoures
petroleum which are estimated , on a given date to be potentially recoverable from undiscovered accumulations
9 of 12
Primary recovery
production of hydrocarbons from a reservoir without the use of any process such as fluid injection, to supplement the natural energy of the reservoir
10 of 12
compressibility
is a measure of the relative volume change of a fluid or solid as a response to a pressure change
11 of 12
depletion drive
can also be called solution/dissolved/internal gas drive. result of gas liberation from the crude oi and the subsequent expansion of the solution of gas as the reservoir pressure is reduced. as pressure falls, gas is produced. bubbles force oil out
