In sonata form. Very compact structure, with no distinct second subject. There's an exposition repeat and a repeat of the development and recapitulation. The beginnings of subsections of the music are highlighted by rit...tempo indications.

It's totally Atonal - 12 tone. Based upon a small section of rows generated from one prime from a matrix table.

It's entirely chromatic, chords tend to accentuate minor 2nds and major 7ths. Chords are created by verticalization of the row.

Melodies created entirely from the tone rows with much octave displacement. Creates a series of 3 pattern notes in the prime, minor 2nds & minor 3rds. Melodic line is fragmented into 2 and 3 note units. Disjunctive melodic patterns, wide leaps.

Describe the Rhythm and Metre in the Quartet Op.22
Uniform affekt is created from very few frequently used rhythmic cells, introduced in the opening four bars. There's some augmentation and reversal of rhythmic cells. Genereally 3/4 expect development section where it's unstable, changing every bar.
