Old Working Class
This group consists of maual workers who belonged to TUs. Employed by industries like coal, steel and shipbuilding. Usually in the north of England, Scotland and Wales

New Working Class
This group, identified by Ivor Crewe, emerged due to structural changes in the economy. Consists of workers in the private sector in southern England. Better qualifiactions and owning their own homes

A phrase describing the political iddle ground, often seen as being occupied by the lower middle and working classes of England.

Traditional Political Culture
The ideas that the UK traditionaly lived by Homogeneirt, conesus and deference. This is no longer the case. The rise of direct action has led away from this culture

Tactical Voting
An individual chooses to vote for a candidate that is not his or her preferred candidate, in order to prevent the candidate they favour least being elected.

This is where voters back a candidate / party other than their normal choice in order to send a message to their 'natural party' that they are not happy. [Often in local elections]
