What is a potential divider?
It is a pair of resistors that divide the potential (voltage) in a circuit
1 of 5
How is the voltage across a potential divider shared out?
According to the relative resistances of the resistors
2 of 5
So if the top resistor had 70% of the resistance, what % of the voltage would it have?
70%
3 of 5
What is the equation for a potential divider?
Voltage out= Voltage in x (R2/(R1xR2)
4 of 5
So in a circuit, the voltage in is 9V, R1 is 20 ohms and R2 is 40 ohms. What is the output voltage?
6V
