What is fatigue?
A reduced capacity to complete work due to lack of energy, oxygen or skeletal tiredness.

What is depleted during exercise?
Fats, carbohydrates, proteins and glycogens.

How are fats burned during exercise?
These are burned during medium to low levels of intensity and usually during aerobic endurance.

When are carbohydrates burned?
These are burned during high intensity exercise when anaerobic exercise is occurring.

When are proteins burned?
They are burned as a last resort fuel as they are used for growth and repair.

When is glycogen burned?
It is stored in the liver and is used as the primary energy source when PC depletes.

What does lactic acid do?
It's another fuel sorce in the body.

What is DOMS?
Delayed Onset Muscle Soreness - the small micro tears can cause us to feel pain after exercising.

What is the Central Governor Theory?
The idea that fatigue is an emotional response and begins in your brain. It thinks that we can never fully fatigue our body as our brain stops us from doing so.

What is EPOC?
Excess Post-exercise Oxygen Consumption.

What is the slow component of EPOC?
Heat dissipation, energy replenishment, rehydration, removal of waste products and can take 24 hours.

What is the fast component of EPOC?
Solely concerned with the restoration of muscle phosphagen stores and takes up to 4 minutes.

What is a cool down and what does it do?
It involves light, continuous exercise so the heart rate remains elevated. It is used to speed up recovery and prevent injury.

What ergogenic aids can help recovery?
Ice baths, compression clothing.
