Edward IV suddenly dies aged 40, leaving his twelve year old son, Edward as the next expected King. Since 1471, the realm had been at peace and the Yorkist dynasty appeared secure.

Gloucester and Buckingham intercept and take charge of Edward V at Stony Stratford, Buckinghamshire, on their way south, to the throne. He also arrested and executed three of Edward's entourage- Rivers, Richard Grey and Sir Thomas Vaughan.

Gloucester cancels Edward's coronation and forces Elizabeth Woodville to hand over her other son, Richard, Duke of York.

Houses of Lords and Commons petition for Gloucester to take the throne after he shows his power and cunning by decapitating Lord Hastings in a council meeting.

A group of Yorkist refugees in exile with Henry Tudor swore to recognise Henry Tudor as king if he married Elizabeth of York.

Parliament meets, passing the Act of the Settlement of the Crown on Richard III to announce Edward's sons as illegitimate. Richard outlaws benevolence sand continued to use the chamber as opposed to the exchequer to have a personal view of finances.

Death of Edward, Prince of Wales, Richard III's son.

Proclamation against Henry Tudor. Henry heard that Richard had asked the Duke of Brittany for his return to England, so crossed the border into France.

Death of Queen Anne. Rumours that she was poisoned so Richard III could marry his niece, Elizabeth of York.

Henry Tudor' forces land in Milford Haven, Wales. Nearly half the nobility now accept Richard.

22nd August 1485
Richard III killed and Henry Tudor proclaimed King Henry VII at the Battle of Bosworth, after William Stanley switched sides to Henry and Northumberland refused to fight for Richard.

Richard III set up ten chantries to say prayers for the dead and was patron go Queen's College, Cambridge. He also reburied Henry VI so that miracles said to have been experienced at his grave could enhance Richard's reign.
