Early Classification Systems (2.3.2)

?
What is cytochrome-c?
A protein used in respiration but it's not identical in all species.
1 of 5
How is cytochrome-c used in classification?
If we compare the sequence of amino acids in samples of cytochrome-c from 2 different species, we can see if the species are closely related if the sequences are very similar.
2 of 5
How is DNA used in classification?
All organisms use DNA as their genetic code. Comparison of DNA sequences is a good way to compare species. The more similar the DNA, the more closely related the 2 species are.

What is the 3-Domain Classification System?
A system suggested by Woese in 1990 which was based on the detailed study of the RNA of all living organisms.

What are the 3 domains called?
