An explanation of conformity. We agree with the opinion of the majority because we value it and want to gain social approval. May lead to compliance.

Situational variables affecting conformity...

Group size = the larger the group the higher the conformity. Unanimity = less unanimity results in less conforming. Task difficulty = increasing the difficultly of the test increased levels of conformity

Gender = research shows that females conform more than males. Hoping to seek social approval. Mood = people are more likely to conform when they're in a good mood. Culture = people's levels of conformity varies on their culture. Some are more uniform
