Advantages for the parent - Working longer hours
They can work flexible hours, so if the parent has a job that requires longer hours, e.g. a bank, they can leave the child with the childminder for longer.

If the childminder is experienced, the parent can go away thinking that the child is going to be in safe hands, as they are experienced and know what they are doing.

Advantages for the parent - They can pick up/ drop off at school/ nursery
This means that the parent can leave the child at the childminder's beforehand, knowing that they don't need to do the school run and that they can get to work on time.

This means that the child is less likley to feel unsettled as they are following their daily routine

Having other children to play with means that the child can develop their social skills/development, as they will have to learn to share things with the other children around them

Disadvantages for the parent - There is no back up plan if your childminder is ill
This means that the parent(s) will have to find alternative childcare arrangments, which could mean that they have to take time off work to look after their child(ren)

Disadvantages for the parent - Childminders can't look after ill children
This means that the parent may have to take time off work to look after their child(ren) as there is a risk of infection

Disadvantages for the Child - Risk of infection
This could be because parents send their child to the childminder because the child seems to be OK, when infact they are ill and there is a risk that the infection can be passed on to the other children around them
