Words only used about God

• far beyond human understanding
• no normal word can do justice to the nature of God
• these words are human inventions so ideas they contain can have limits but they're necessary in order to help us talk about God
• everyday qualities but witht prefix 'all' these qualities find their fullest meaning in God, people can understand these aspects of God

All-powerful/Omnipotent

• God can do anything
  • problem; "God can't make square circle"
    • in defense that cannot exist/it is a contradiction, doesn't mean God is limited in power.
• God is source of all being
  • nothing can exist without God, he can do all things.
• Evil proves God isn't all-powerful?
  • God allows humans freedom, so limits the exercise of his own power, not a limitation on God.

All-loving/Benevolent

• God cares for his creation
• one definiton of love is wanting the good of the other person
• God wants to express his love and God's creation is the way that he shares his love
• Creation is an outward expression of God's self-giving, self-giving in God can't be restricted…
