The Bronsted-Lowry Theory
This is the theory that deals with the transfer of H+ ions.
A molecule that donates a proton (H+ ion) is known to be the 'acid'.
A molecule that accepts a proton (H+ ion) is known to be the 'base'.
eg. Hydrochloric acid. We call this an acid because of its behaviour.
- Turns litmus paper red
- Is neutralised by a base
- Has a pH value lower than 7
