The Origins of Totalitarianism," 1951, Hannah Arendt

  • Stateless people during WW! where protected under minority treaties, (most govs signed them).
  • Denationalisation mean't meant persecuted became persecuted all over europe (e.g. Jews).
  • Minorities half stateless- needed extra protection from state.
  • Refugee minorities had no strong national ideantity, nowhere to return to, infultrating europe.
  • In the 30's hard to distinguish between stateless refugees and normal resident aliens.
  • Stateless person commits a crime, and least recognised as a person with rights (aka read out the laws and procedures ect).
  • European goverments failed to protect the stateless.
  • Jews minority all over the world,
