Lenin returned to Russia shortly after the conclusion of the February Revolution, mostly in anger at the state of both his country and party. His orders had been for the most part disobeyed and as such he had to correct it. On the 4th of April 1917, Lenin delivered the April Theses, a rejection of the current party ideals and change. This included:
- Working for a new revolution
- Not working with other parties
- Overthrowing of the PG
- Handing power to the workers
- Handing authority to the soviets
The plan highlighted the differences in the party. Lenin himself wanted revolution, but many party members like Stalin and Kamenev had wanted Accomodationism and to work with the other parties temporarily.
As a result of Lenin's return, tension soon turned toward the government. There was large scale anger at how the war had not ended, but people did not acknowledge the fact that if Russia left the war it would lose out on financial loans and good democratic relations.
