  • Land was transferred from the landowners to the peasants- the peasants owned the village communally as a whole rather than individually
  • In most regions, the peasants recieved less land than they had previously worked. Landowners usually kept the most fertile land
  • The landowners recieved compensation in the form of government bonds. The government got these bonds by charging peasants redemption fees for 49 years
  • The peasants were made collectively responsible for the village. The mir collected each households taxes, had to give permission to peasants if they wished to buy or sell land or leave the village, and decised what every peasants should grow and when key jobs had to get carried out
