Kinetic energy
Physics revision
- Anything that moves has kinetic energy
- Kinetic energy is energy movement
- When an object is moving it has energy, this is its kinetic energy
- Mass and speed depend on somethings kinetic energy
- The bigger the mass, the faster it will go and therefore will have a bigger kinetic energy
- Trains, cars, airoplanes and speedboats will have losts of kinetic energy whereas someone pushing a trolley around will only have a small amount
- Formula:
- Kinetic energy = 0.5 x mass x speed2 (speed squared)
- E.g, a car with the mass of 1450kg is travelling at 28 m/s. Its kinetic energy = 0.5 x 1450 x 28 (squared) = 568400
- If the mass is doubled, the KE is doubles. If the speed doubles the KE quadruples (x4). This is due to the v(squared) in the formula.
- Stopping distances…
