Saxon Crime and Punishment


The Saxon's would use punishments as a deterrent to other criminals as the only prisons they had were to hold criminals before trial, not to reform them.

Minor Crimes - Most crimes committed in Saxon England were petty theft and damage to property. Violent crime was rare and reduced when Blood Feuds were outlawed.

Minor crimes were normally dealt with by fines, oaths on the Bible and public humiliation. Public humiliation was a way of publically
