Restorative Justice Programmes 

This form of treatment often always involves communication between the offender and the victim of their crimes. This doesn't have to be face to face, it may just involve making a payment along with a letter apologising. However, if it doesn involve a face to face interation, a impartial facillitator is always present to ensure no harm is brought to either individuals. 

In many cases restorative justice is offered in place of a prision sentence, if both the offender and victim agree. 

Aims

There are two main aims ofr restorative justice:

Rehabilitation of offenders - In this treatment the victim is brought in and expresses how the crime has affected them personally. This forces the offender to acknowledge that their crime has consequences on other people and acknowledge the percpective of others which will hopefully reduce the chances of them reoffending in the future. 

This treatment is unique as it is not a form of punishment but is instead an eye opening treatment for the criminals as it involves their active participation to change their own behaviour
