Regionalism

Definitions : 

• Integration - A process whereby states co-operate and enter into agreements with other states based on common principles and rules of conduct, such as is evident in the EU. 

• Federalism - A system of government whereby a central body makes laws and regulations, which are followed by a number of subsidiary states. The US government is an example of a federal government. 

• Functionalism - The idea that integration occurs as a result of the success of another area of integration. For instance, a government might see that a certain economic policy worked well, which will cause them to build on that policy by creating a new currency for instance.
