There are several different theories that explain the development of life on Earth.

All living things need compounds, called amino acid, to develop the proteins that form our bodies. Most amino acids contain a compound of carbon dioxide, hydrogen, nitrogen and oxygen. 

These gases were believed to make up the Earths early atmosphere.
