Vectors and scalars
Velocity is 'the rate at which a body moves in a specified direction'
Velocity -> the rate of change of displacement or displacement/time taken
Acceleration is 'the rate of change of velocity' -> meaured in metres per second squared
Deceleration is 'a negative change in velocity over time or negative acceleration'
Impulse
Impulse = Force x Time
Impulse is equal to the change of momentum (mass x velocity)
Impulse is represented on a force-time graph
Application of Forces
Internal forces -> Muscular contractions
External forces
Gravity -> force of attraction between two bodies: force pulls objects towards the centre of the earth
- Mass -> quantity of matter in the body
- Weight -> effect of gravity on the body
Friction -> force opposing motion at the interface of two surfaces
- friction created opposes the movement/tendency to move
Air resistance -> friction between a body and air particles
- affected by clothing and the deisgn of equipment worn by athletes
