Korean War

Background:

• 1910: Japan had annexed Korea
• Nov., 1943: GB, US, KMT (China) signed the Cario Declaration (Korea should become free) (Stalin accepted this)

• USSR put Communists into government in 1945, when the Red Army had invaded (US worried)
• Potsdam: 38th Parallel divide (due to previous point)

DPRK (Democratic People's Republic of Korea) (North Korea) & ROK (Republic of Korea) (South Korea):

• Initally, the US rejected both Rhee's & Kim's groups
• UN General Assembley agreed: Cupervise elections in both North & South Korea
• The USSR troops refused to let UN supervisors enter North Korea
• Each state claimed to represent the whole of Korea!
• 1948: USSR troops left, but left military equipment

DPRK:

• Apparently, the USSR supplied DPRK with more than they had given to the CCP!
• Useful base for the USSR to watch the events in China

ROK:
