After the Industrial Revolution, society was heavily impacted by a new outlook on crime and punishment.
Crime was very different in this period.
The Bloody Code - These harsh laws meant that most crimes (including petty ones) were punishable by death. This resulted in a greater recorded number of punishments and executions.
Government - The government began to centralise activites, so local decisions were now national level. With a centralised government, laws and decisions made in London would be used everywhere - which made legal matters see fairer.
