 All substances found in the world  are made up of tiny particles named atoms. An element is susbtance which is made up of only one sort of atom.  They are roughly about 100 different elements. These are all seen in the periodic table.
The elements are arrreanged in particular ways. The horizontal rows are called periods. The vertical columns are called groups. These elements are in a group very similar properties  to each other.

On the periodic table metals are shown on the left and the non metals on the right.
