Use of animals
- Animals have been used to study gender development. However, there has been disputed by many psychologists since there are too many differences between humans and animals and therefore believe the results gained from these types of experiments to be worthless.
- Pfeiffer (1936) found that transplanting male gonads onto female rats caused the release of male sex hormones in these females. In other studies the opposite was done; male rats were given female hormones during development. The treated rats showed behaviour that was opposite to their original gender.
