Hormones:
Hormones are chemical messengers in the body. They are secreted by endocrine glands. They travel in the blood to target organs. They reguate many body processes.
Pancreas - Insulin
Testes - Testosterone
Ovaries - Oestrogen and Progesterone
Nervous System - Via neurones, fast
Hormones - Via blood, slower
Glucose levels too high:
- Pancreas secretes (releases) insulin
- Insulin travels in blood to liver
- Liver takes in more glucose
- Glucose is stored as glycogen
- Result: Less glucose in blood
Glucose levels too low:
- Pancreas stop producing insulin
- Liver cells break down glycogen into glucose
