Crude oil is is a mixture of many compounds, but mainly contains hydrocarbons. Hydrocarbons are a mixture of hydrogen and carbon, and they are alkanes.
Alkanes are saturated hydrocarbons. This means that they contain as many hydrogen atoms as possible in each molecule. You cannot add anymore.
The general formula for alkanes is CnH2n+2.
