Boundaries
A boundary is a rule that is made for a reason. It might be to keep children safe, to avoid accidents or prevent damage. Boundaries allow children to explore their surroundings knowing that parents or other adults are in control and are looking after them. Boundaries give children security. If boundaries are not kept consistently, children will test them consistently. Inconsistent boundaries will lead to children being uncertain about what they can or can't do. They will be confused by responses from adults. It is crucial that boundaries are clear and understandable.
Using theories in pratical situations
- Say 'stop it now please' or 'no' using a voice that shows they mean it.
- Use a facial expression that shows disaproval.
