·         The Confession Church - movement of German Protestants that opposed the Nazi party's attempts to unify Protestant churches of Nazi ideals

·         Civil disobedience - symbolic process of opposing government laws, practices or ideals

·         Visible Community - importance of the Church is being active not only in the community, but in socio-political issues

·         Finkenwalde - illegal seminary directed by Bonhoeffer (1935-1937) that sought to put the principles of the Confessing Church to practice

·         "No Rusty Swords" - Bonhoeffer's call to the Church to be continually active in its fight against prejudice.

·         Cheap Grace - Grace without discipleship or suffering: "Church without the Cross", a route of Christianity that fails to reflect Jesus' example or teachings

·         Costly Grace - difficult path to true discipleship which involves suffering and sacrifice

·         Barmen Declaration - 1934 theological document that rejected the idea that the Church should follow the state, became a focal point of the Confessing Church's view
