Doctrine of Parliamentary Supremacy
Parliamentary Supremacy is law that is sovereign over all other forms of law in England and Wales. It was established in the 17th Century where in 1689 in article 9, the bill of Rights was enacted which deemed Parliament Supreme in law making. In the 19th Century a lawyer called Dicey defined this law into three parts.
The first part is that they can legislate on any subject matter, meaning there are no limits on what Parliament can make laws about. An example of this is the Parliament Acts 1911 and 1949 which placed limits on the House of Lords to block a Bill by voting against it.
