Amines
Can be primary, secondary or tertiary depending on how many Hs on the N have been replaced
Basicity
- Amines are weak bases
- Each N has a lone pair
- Can accept a proton, H+
- Form dative covalent bonds when accepting protons
- Reactions:
- react with acids to form a salt:
- CH3CH2NH2 (ethylamine) + HCl > CH3CH2NH3+Cl- (ethylammonium)
