A Level PE - Joints and Articulations:

Joint: An area if the body where two or more bones articulate to create human movement

Types of Joint:

  1. Synovial
  2. Fibrous
  3. Cartilaginous

Synovial Joints:

  • Allow free movement 

Come in the forms:

  1. Pivot Joint (e.g. in the neck - turning your head side to side while swimming to breathe)
  2. Hinge Joint (e.g. in the knee - kicking a ball)
  3. Ball and Socket Joint (e.g. in the shoulder - bowling a cricket ball)
