[3.3.1f COMPUTER START UP PROCEDURES]

 

Here is what happens as soon as you switch on the power for your PC:

 

Ø  Power turned on

Ø  Read only memory only accessible at this moment

Ø  POST (power on self test) is run to check that all hardware components are functioning

Ø  CPU registers are cleared and reset to F000 (just incase there is anything left from the last use)

Ø  F000 the address of the first boot program instruction is loaded into the program counter

Ø  Control is now passed to the boot program which carries out further checks on the hardware

Ø  Checks for BIOS on the hard disk or on a storage device called the CMOS RAM

Ø
