What is Sociology?
SOCIOLOGY is the systematic study of human social life, groups and societies. Sociologists are interested in understanding the ways in which society influences us and shapes our daily lives. Sociologists ask questions about the workings of society. E.g. how families have changed since the 1960s.
Key sociological themes –
•SOCIAL STRUCTURES are institutions that make up society. E.g. Family, education, legal, social stratification •SOCIAL PROCESSES are processes that involve interaction between different individuals, groups (families) and institutions(schools) in society. •SOCIAL ISSUES are issues that affect communities, groups and people’s lives.
