Fitness- is the ability to meet the demands of your environment Fitness is divided into two different areas: General Fitness (Health Related Fitness) Specific Fitness General Fitness is the general day to day working of the body. Components include: Endurance- Cardiovascular and Muscular, Strength, Suppleness and Speed. The next card takes these components into more detail. 1 of 2 Components of General Fitness Endurance - The ability of the body to keep going for long periods of time without getting tired. It is split into two areas: Cardiovascular Endurance - The ability of the heart to deliver oxygen to the muscles over a long period of exercise. eg. Cooper 12 minute run. Muscular Endurance - The ability of the muscle to keep contracting over a long period of time without getting tired. eg. pressups, situps Strength - The maximum amount of force that a muscle can exert to overcome resistance Flexibility - The range of movement available at a joint or at a series of joints Speed - The ability to move the whole or part of the body over a given distance 2 of 2
