Sport England

It was set up by the government and is answerable to Parliament through the Department for Culture, Media and Sport.

They will invest over £1 billion of National Lottery funding between 2012 and 2017 in various organisations eg:

• up to 46 NGBs received £120 million
• children and young people through NGBs received £28 million
• open funding makes money available for a variety of things like protecting playing fields
• mixed funding is based around the legacy of the London 2012 Olympics with £30 million available

Sport England provides a range of facilities and planning services that are linked to helping to plan for good sports facilities to be used now and in the future. 

• help is given to assist in the planning
• specific focus on protecting playing fields as many schools were selling them to raise money
• grants are available to help provide facilities
• aim to improve facility design and concentrate on modernisation of facilities to help raise standards

Sport England carry out research to find out a variety of things about participation in sport and what affects it. They aim to grow and sustain participation in sport.

• the Active People Survey measures how many people participate, what sport they do and how those factors can differ across England
• they aim to find out why people play sport, what keeps them engaged and why they drop out
• some links have been made to the economic conditions the country has and is experiencing

Sport England has a commitment to helping people and communities across the country create a sporting habit for life. 

• they aim to creat opportunities for children to play sport
• the 'Give sport a go' initiative links with NGBs to inform people about their nearest clubs
• they have identified some certain groups to specifically concentrate on like the disabled, women and certain ethnic groups
