Robin Hood Presentation Cue Cards

Robin hood was a famed outlaw in English folklore. He is well known for stealing from the rich and giving to the poor.

We are very keen to learn about Robin Hood because he is a good hearted outlaw (takes from the rich and gives to the poor). He was also in a very corrupt and violent period of time, with arrows, swords, fist fights and blood. This may be appealing to the boys of the class. Don’t be fooled by the fighting, Robin Hood is also a love story where the daughter of the mean king loves Robin Hood. it could be synonymous to the Shakespeare’s play ‘Romeo & Juliet’.

There are no definite dates to when Robin hood was born, but his name (robin hood, robyn hode and other similiars) appeared in rolls of several English crime records, from 1261 onwards suggesting that he was living in his mid-life during the 1260’s.

Robin hood was alive during the 13th century. The 13^th century is not considered quite a significant century. The 13^th century was also during part of what is known as the high middle ages.

The Mongolian crusades ended around this time but apart from that not much happened during this time period. However, before robin hood, (during 12th century) king Richard was born, crowned, and participated in the third crusade as a Christian commander.

A child's life in the Middle Ages was quite different to that of a child today. All children were raised by parents who cared little when it came to looking after the child. The children were quickly expected to mature to the adult world. During the Medieval Times, a child was put under complete control of his/her father until the age of 12, when middle class children were put into elementary schools. Only boys were allowed to continue into grammar schools where Latin was taught. Children were taught to be timid and to respect authority. A phrase common to the time period was, "spare the rod and spoil the child.“ Peasant children often were raised in their parent's homes and it was not uncommon to find a peasant child working at a young age and completely illiterate.

many people believe that robin hood was a good person because he stole from to rich to feed the poor. But what many people don't know, is that he kept a large portion of the money he stole, and at the end of the day it is still stealing.

also, in a research project carried out by scholar julian luxford recently it was discovered that in a medieval history book, written in latin by an unkown monk 23 words in latins would shed new light on the genuity of nottingham's hero's actions. translated, the words read "Around this time, according to popular opinion, a certain outlaw named Robin Hood, with his accomplices, infested Sherwood and other law-abiding areas of England with continuous robberies."
