Respiration - Transport of oxygen breif notes on the transport of oxygen 2.0 / 5 based on 1 rating ? Physical EducationAnatomy & physiologyAS Created by: Michael AlexanderCreated on: 02-01-12 20:34 Oxygen Transport Majority of oxygen is carried by haemoglobin Oxygen saturated haemoglobin is known as oxy haemoglobin At the tissues, the acidity of the blood increases (co2 and lactic acid) resulting in a lower partial pressure. This causes oxygen to disassociate from the haemoglobin and released onto the myoglobin in the tissue. This is known as the bohr effect During exercise, increased co2 causes more disassociation of oxygen due to a lower pH level in the working muscles. 1 of 1
